ESL Ministry
Mission Statement
Along with several other Fort Collins congregations, Grace Church Presbyterian partners with the organization Refugee Oasis to provide ESL (English as a Second Language) classes to people in the local community. Learning English is a significant step for many non-English speakers towards economic and social flourishing in the U.S. Grace seeks to provide access to that important goal in a Christian setting. Through this ministry, we hope to show our ESL students that Grace, the broader Christian community, and the gospel of Jesus Christ welcomes them and are for them.
The ESL ministry consists of fall and spring semesters, each with 10–12 weekly class sessions. Several other Fort Collins congregations offer evening classes, but Grace is the only one to offer a daytime class. This makes our class a great option for night-shift workers and parents who need a brief childcare respite. At the end of each semester, students receive a certificate documenting their hours of study. Additionally, we host an optional extra class session at the end of each semester teaching the gospel and Scripture.
The ESL ministry is always looking for volunteer help!
Class meets Tuesdays from 10 AM – 12 PM for 10-12 weeks in the fall and spring. You don’t need to speak another language, have any experience with ESL, or be available to help with every class session––all you need is willingness to serve and a desire to connect with our wonderful students! We have volunteer opportunities in childcare, teaching, assisting teachers, and hospitality. If you are interested in helping out with ESL, email Dawson at dawsongilbert20@gmail.com.
